Aizawl Football Club (Aizawl FC) was established in 1984 and belongs to Aizawl Mizoram. It started as an amateur football club and within a decade they did not see any action happening and had to shut down. 

The club had to shut down in 1994. The club remained dysfunctional for nearly 14 years with their existence only on paper. But, the club was revived back. Let us know more in detail about this football club Aizawl FC.

Aizawl FC History

in 2011, the football club was revived back by the efforts of a group of fervent football fans and the owner of the football club Robert Romavia Royte. After many efforts in 2012, they obtained the All India Football Federation’s Licence to play in I-league 2nd division. From then onwards the players of Aizawl Football Club have never looked back and have climbed the ladders of success.

Let us have a detailed view of the Aizawl FC victories that the team has gained after their reestablishment in the year 2011, as the team has shown a tremendous amount of progress.

2012-present

In 2012 Aizawl FC gained recognition from the All India Football Federation and managed to gain entry into the second division I-League, in the 2012-2013 season of I-league they stood 7th in their position and did not gain entry to I-league first division. They again participated in I-league second division in the 2013 season and were not able to advance more than the group stages. The same thing happened in the 2014 season. It was evident that the team had to work hard in order to progress further. 

But, the tables turned in the year 2015. In the 2015-2016 I-league second division season they played 14 matches, won 11, lost 2 and 1 match was a draw. They were the winners of the I-League 2nd division and advanced to I-league tournament. In the 2015 I-League tournament they stood in the 8th position. But, in the group match Mohun Bagan v/s Aizawl FC they defeated Mohun Bagan by 2-1, which was the biggest victory in itself. They were also the winners of the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 Mizoram Premier League. They were also the runners up in Federation Cup in 2015-2016. 

They won the 2016-2017 I-league and marked their entry into the world of national football. In this tournament, they played 18 matches, won 11, lost 3 and 4 matches were a draw. In the match East Bengal v/s Aizawl FC, they won the match by 1-0. They won the I-league tournament and qualified for the 2017-2018 AFC Champions League Qualifiers. In the AFC Champions League qualifiers, the team just reached the play-off rounds and then were thrown out. In the 2017-2018 I-league season they were in the 5th position and in the 2018-2019 season in 7th position.
